The NHL’s upcoming 2026-27 season will introduce a new initiative called the Prove-It Players program, designed to give young, high-potential prospects a chance to showcase their skills in the league. Focused on the Metropolitan Division, this trial will allow selected players to compete in regular-season games while under close evaluation. The program aims to bridge the gap between junior or minor-league development and full NHL readiness, offering a structured path for emerging talent. Teams will have the opportunity to assess these players’ readiness for sustained professional hockey, potentially accelerating their careers or guiding them back to developmental leagues.
