Hockey Canada has lost its representation on the International Ice Hockey Federation’s governing council for the first time since the 1990s, following the election of a new IIHF president. The organization’s president and CEO failed to win one of the three available council seats, ending a long-standing presence in global hockey leadership. The shift comes as the IIHF undergoes a leadership transition, with the newly elected president set to shape the federation’s future direction. The move marks a significant change in Canada’s influence over international hockey governance.

Hockey Canada will not have a seat on the IIHF council for the first time in nearly 30 years after Franz Reindl was elected president. Hockey Canada president and CEO Katherine Henderson was unable to secure one of the three spots on the 15-member council.
