The Washington Capitals have been crowned the top team in the NHL off-season rankings, cementing their status as the league's most formidable squad heading into the new campaign. Yahoo Sports' evaluation highlights the depth and talent the Caps have built around their star-laden core, making them the team every other franchise will be measuring themselves against. With a roster that blends elite offensive firepower with reliable defensive structure, Washington enters the season as the standard-bearer for the entire league. The ranking sets the stage for a competitive race, but it also places a target on the Capitals' backs as the rest of the NHL looks to prove they can dethrone the reigning benchmark.
