I’m sorry, I’m kinda new to hockey but I get why another player serves the penalty for goalies since an open net is a big liability but I just realized, can’t the goalie just serve the penalty and have the backup goalie replace them for the time being when they’re in the box? I’m sorry if it’s a stupid question, I’m genuinely just curious. Edit: I mean for longer penalties, even I see how stupid it would be to have a whole swap for a 2 minute penalty. Or do goalies just not usually get those? Edit 2: thanks for the insight, I just realized my perception of time is worse than I thought and 30 seconds is nowhere near enough time for a backup goalie to warm up. However, I still do want to see it happen because I think a goalie in the penalty box would be pretty funny. Thanks for all the answers though! submitted by /u/Alt_AccountNumber3 [link] [comments]
